The defending committee was composed of Prof. Xue-feng Xin (Chair) from Nanjing Tech University, Profs Wei-min Ding &amp; Chun-xia He, Dr. Lu-jiang Xu and Dr. Wei Chen from Nanjing Agricultural University (NJAU).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr. Zhang presented his research results for master thesis, the committee members raised relevant questions. Based on the replies and their reviewed, the panels agreed that Mr. Zhang had successfully completed his research and course requirements in agricultural bio-environment and energy engineering. Mr. Zhang studied microbial lipids from food wastes by <em>Cryptococcus curvatus<\/em> ATCC 20509 with his thesis entitled &#8220;Study on microbial oil production from discarded cooked rice and shrimp shell by <em>Cryptococcus curvatus<\/em>&#8220;. He significantly improved the efficiency of lipid production by co-fermenting glucose and <em>N<\/em>-acetylglucosamine from food waste with <em>Cryptococcus curvatus<\/em>. Meanwhile, the acetic acid waste liquid collected after the demineralization process was utilized to produce microbial lipid, thus achieving the recycling and reutilization of the waste liquid.
