[1] found that microcrystalline cellulose could be completely dissolved in water at temperature above 320\u00a0<sup>o<\/sup>C and became a \u2018cellulose solution\u2019, which made it possible to build up a continuous flow reactor for the rapid hydrolysis of cellulose. Continuous reaction of microcrystalline cellulose (20 wt%) in water at supercritical conditions (&gt; 374\u00a0<sup>o<\/sup>C and 22.1 MPa) gave water-soluble products (with 100% conversion) containing 80% hydrolysates (glucose and oligomers) for short reaction time (ca. 0.05 s) [1]. However, the separating of pure cellulose from actual biomass (e.g., wood) is complicated and costly. It is difficult for the solubilization and hydrolysis of pure cellulose to be commercialized. Thus, it is necessary to find a method for complete dissolution of actual lignocellulosic biomass and for further refining to value-added products.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong>Fang et al.<\/strong> [2] found that by adding 0.8 wt% Na<sub>2<\/sub>CO<sub>3<\/sub>, actual wood without pretreatment can be completely dissolved upon fast-heating (7~16\u00b0C\/s) to form a \u2018wood solution\u2019 at 329-367\u00a0<sup>o<\/sup>C at short reaction times (0.7-2 s). The \u2018wood solution\u2019 can be rapidly (ca. 15 s) hydrolyzed to sugars\/sugar oligomers under homogeneous conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Based on the above work, a \u2018fast hydrolysis\u2019 process was invented for actual lignocellulosic biomass:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\">(a)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Placing lignocellulosic biomass (wood or grass particles) in 1.9~10 wt% alkaline solution, and keeping biomass\/liquid ratio at (0.003~1.05)\/1, as sample 1;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\">(b)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heating pure water to a temperature between 329~367 \u00b0C, as sample 2;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Mixing sample 1 with sample 2 from steps (a) and (b) in a reactor, keeping biomass concentration at 0.1~35.1%, adjusting pH of the mixture &gt;11.4 and water density of 322~787 kg\/m<sup>3<\/sup>, rapidly heating the mixture to 329~367\u00b0C (pressure of 14~106 MPa) at a heating rate of 7~16\u00b0C\/s, and the lignocellulosic biomass will completely dissolve in 0.7~2 s to form \u2018biomass solution\u2019 that is further rapidly hydrolyzed in a homogeneous phase to sugars and sugar oligomers. Fast Hydrolysis of Biomass<strong>\u56fe1.\u5feb\u901f\u6c34\u89e3\u751f\u7269\u8d28<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #003300;\">The patent is the latest development in a 23-year effort by <strong>Professor Zhen Fang<\/strong> in the study of biomass hydrolysis process, aimed at a simple, fast and low-cost method for a novel biorefinery.\u00a0 \u2018Fast hydrolysis\u2019 process will be the technological key to economic utilization of abundant lignocellulosic biomass as viable feedstocks for the production of industrial sugar, ethanol and chemicals. His pioneering work opens the door, for the first time, to the possibility of developing industrial-scale technology at competitive cost for producing biofuels and value-added products from lignocellulosic biomass based on the \u2018fast hydrolysis\u2019 process in a flow reactor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\">This patent is the ninth patent issued to <strong>Professor Zhen Fang<\/strong> adding to its portfolio of 3 pending international and 13 pending Chinese patent applications which cover various features of biorefinery technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\">The newly issued patent is accessible on the USPTO\u2019s website at http:\/\/portal.uspto.gov\/external\/portal\/pair.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Fast Hydrolysis Process of Biomass<\/strong><strong>\u5feb\u901f\u6c34\u89e3\u751f\u7269\u8d28<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u6839\u636e\u7f8e\u56fd\u4e13\u5229\u5546\u6807\u5c40\u516c\u5171PAIR\uff0c<strong>\u65b9\u771f<\/strong>\uff08\u4e2d\u56fd\u6606\u660e\uff09\u548c\u65b9\u7eaf\uff08\u7f8e\u56fd\u534e\u76db\u987f\u5dde\uff09\u5df2\u83b7\u5f97\u7f8e\u56fd\u4e13\u5229\u53f7\uff1aUS8268126\uff0c\u8be5\u6280\u672f\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e86\u4e00\u79cd\u7b80\u5355\u3001\u4f4e\u6210\u672c\u7684\u65b9\u6cd5\u6765\u5feb\u901f\u6eb6\u89e3\u548c\u6c34\u89e3\u6728\u8d28\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u751f\u7269\u8d28\uff0c\u5177\u6709\u5de8\u5927\u7684\u65b0\u578b\u751f\u7269\u7cbe\u70bc\u6f5c\u529b\u3002<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201c\u6728\u8d28\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u751f\u7269\u8d28\u5feb\u901f\u5b8c\u5168\u6eb6\u89e3\u548c\u6c34\u89e3\u7684\u65b9\u6cd5\u3001\u8bbe\u5907\u548c\u5e94\u7528\u201d<\/strong>\u4e13\u5229\u4e8e2012\u5e749\u670818\u65e5\u6388\u4e88\u4e2d\u56fd\u79d1\u5b66\u9662\u751f\u7269\u8d28\u7ec4\u7ec4\u957f\u517c\u521b\u59cb\u4eba<strong>\u65b9\u771f<\/strong>\u6559\u6388\u3002 <strong>\u65b9\u771f<\/strong>\u6559\u6388\u8868\u793a\uff1a\u201c\u6211\u4eec\u5f88\u9ad8\u5174\u83b7\u5f97\u8fd9\u9879\u65b0\u7684\u7f8e\u56fd\u4e13\u5229\uff0c\u5176\u4e2d\u5305\u542b\u4e3a\u2018\u5feb\u901f\u6c34\u89e3\u2019\u8fc7\u7a0b\u63d0\u4f9b\u4fdd\u62a4\u7684\u6743\u5229\u8981\u6c42\u3002\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u5728\u4e4b\u524d\u7684\u5de5\u4f5c\u4e2d\uff0cSasaki\u7b49\u4eba[1]\u53d1\u73b0\u5fae\u6676\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u5728320 \u2103\u4ee5\u4e0a\u7684\u6e29\u5ea6\u4e0b\u53ef\u4ee5\u5b8c\u5168\u6eb6\u89e3\u5728\u6c34\u4e2d\uff0c\u6210\u4e3a\u201c\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u6eb6\u6db2\u201d\uff0c\u8fd9\u4f7f\u5f97\u5efa\u7acb\u4e00\u4e2a\u7528\u4e8e\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u5feb\u901f\u6c34\u89e3\u7684\u8fde\u7eed\u6d41\u53cd\u5e94\u5668\u6210\u4e3a\u53ef\u80fd\u3002\u5fae\u6676\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\uff0820 wt%\uff09\u5728\u8d85\u4e34\u754c\u6761\u4ef6\u4e0b\uff08&gt;374 \u2103\u548c22.1 MPa\uff09\u5728\u6c34\u4e2d\u8fde\u7eed\u53cd\u5e94\uff0c\u5728\u77ed\u53cd\u5e94\u65f6\u95f4\uff08\u7ea60.05\u79d2\uff09\u5185\u5f97\u5230\u542b\u670980%\u6c34\u89e3\u4ea7\u7269\uff08\u8461\u8404\u7cd6\u548c\u4f4e\u805a\u7269\uff09\u7684\u6c34\u6eb6\u6027\u4ea7\u7269\uff08\u8f6c\u5316\u7387\u4e3a100%\uff09[1]\u3002\u7136\u800c\uff0c\u4ece\u5b9e\u9645\u751f\u7269\u8d28\uff08\u5982\u6728\u6750\uff09\u4e2d\u5206\u79bb\u7eaf\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u662f\u590d\u6742\u4e14\u6602\u8d35\u7684\u3002\u7eaf\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u7684\u589e\u6eb6\u548c\u6c34\u89e3\u5f88\u96be\u5546\u4e1a\u5316\u3002\u56e0\u6b64\uff0c\u6709\u5fc5\u8981\u627e\u5230\u4e00\u79cd\u5b8c\u5168\u6eb6\u89e3\u5b9e\u9645\u6728\u8d28\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u751f\u7269\u8d28\u5e76\u8fdb\u4e00\u6b65\u7cbe\u70bc\u6210\u589e\u503c\u4ea7\u54c1\u7684\u65b9\u6cd5\u3002<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u65b9\u771f<\/strong>\u7b49\u4eba[2]\u53d1\u73b0\uff0c\u901a\u8fc7\u6dfb\u52a00.8 wt%\u7684Na<sub>2<\/sub>CO<sub>3<\/sub>\uff0c\u672a\u7ecf\u9884\u5904\u7406\u7684\u5b9e\u9645\u6728\u6750\u5728\u5feb\u901f\u52a0\u70ed\uff087~16 \u00b0C\/s\uff09\u65f6\u53ef\u4ee5\u5b8c\u5168\u6eb6\u89e3\uff0c\u5728329-367 \u00b0C\u4e0b\u4ee5\u77ed\u53cd\u5e94\u65f6\u95f4\uff080.7-2 s\uff09\u5f62\u6210\u201c\u6728\u6750\u6eb6\u6db2\u201d\u3002\u201c\u6728\u6eb6\u6db2\u201d\u53ef\u4ee5\u5728\u5747\u5300\u6761\u4ef6\u4e0b\u5feb\u901f\uff08\u7ea615\u79d2\uff09\u6c34\u89e3\u6210\u7cd6\/\u7cd6\u4f4e\u805a\u7269\u3002<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u57fa\u4e8e\u4e0a\u8ff0\u5de5\u4f5c\uff0c\u4e3a\u5b9e\u9645\u7684\u6728\u8d28\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u751f\u7269\u8d28\u53d1\u660e\u4e86\u4e00\u79cd\u201c\u5feb\u901f\u6c34\u89e3\u201d\u5de5\u827a\uff1a<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(a)\u5c06\u6728\u8d28\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u751f\u7269\u8d28\uff08\u6728\u6750\u6216\u8349\u9897\u7c92\uff09\u7f6e\u4e8e1.9~10 wt%\u7684\u78b1\u6027\u6eb6\u6db2\u4e2d\uff0c\u5e76\u4fdd\u6301\u751f\u7269\u8d28\/\u6db2\u4f53\u6bd4\u4e3a\uff080.003~1.05\uff09\/1\uff0c\u4f5c\u4e3a\u6837\u54c11\uff1b<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: kg\/m<sup>3<\/sup>\uff0c\u4ee57~16 \u00b0C\/s\u7684\u52a0\u70ed\u901f\u7387\u5c06\u6df7\u5408\u7269\u5feb\u901f\u52a0\u70ed\u81f3329~367\u00b0C\uff08\u538b\u529b\u4e3a14~106 MPa\uff09\uff0c\u6728\u8d28\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u751f\u7269\u8d28\u5c06\u57280.7~2\u79d2\u5185\u5b8c\u5168\u6eb6\u89e3\uff0c\u5f62\u6210\u201c\u751f\u7269\u8d28\u6eb6\u6db2\u201d\uff0c\u5728\u5747\u5300\u76f8\u4e2d\u8fdb\u4e00\u6b65\u5feb\u901f\u6c34\u89e3\u4e3a\u7cd6\u548c\u7cd6\u4f4e\u805a\u7269\u3002\u5728\u56fe1\u4e2d\uff0c\u63d0\u51fa\u4e86\u4e00\u79cd\u7528\u4e8e\u8fde\u7eed\u201c\u5feb\u901f\u6c34\u89e3\u201d\u8fc7\u7a0b\u7684\u8bbe\u5907\u3002<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u8be5\u4e13\u5229\u662f<strong>\u65b9\u771f<\/strong>\u6559\u638823\u5e74\u6765\u5728\u751f\u7269\u8d28\u6c34\u89e3\u8fc7\u7a0b\u7814\u7a76\u65b9\u9762\u7684\u6700\u65b0\u8fdb\u5c55\uff0c\u65e8\u5728\u4e3a\u65b0\u578b\u751f\u7269\u7cbe\u70bc\u5382\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e00\u79cd\u7b80\u5355\u3001\u5feb\u901f\u3001\u4f4e\u6210\u672c\u7684\u65b9\u6cd5\u3002\u201c\u5feb\u901f\u6c34\u89e3\u201d\u5de5\u827a\u5c06\u662f\u7ecf\u6d4e\u5229\u7528\u4e30\u5bcc\u7684\u6728\u8d28\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u751f\u7269\u8d28\u4f5c\u4e3a\u751f\u4ea7\u5de5\u4e1a\u7cd6\u3001\u4e59\u9187\u548c\u5316\u5b66\u54c1\u7684\u53ef\u884c\u539f\u6599\u7684\u6280\u672f\u5173\u952e\u3002\u4ed6\u7684\u5f00\u521b\u6027\u5de5\u4f5c\u9996\u6b21\u4e3a\u4ee5\u5177\u6709\u7ade\u4e89\u529b\u7684\u6210\u672c\u5f00\u53d1\u5de5\u4e1a\u89c4\u6a21\u6280\u672f\u7684\u53ef\u80fd\u6027\u6253\u5f00\u4e86\u5927\u95e8\uff0c\u8be5\u6280\u672f\u57fa\u4e8e\u6d41\u52a8\u53cd\u5e94\u5668\u4e2d\u7684\u201c\u5feb\u901f\u6c34\u89e3\u201d\u8fc7\u7a0b\uff0c\u4ece\u6728\u8d28\u7ea4\u7ef4\u7d20\u751f\u7269\u8d28\u4e2d\u751f\u4ea7\u751f\u7269\u71c3\u6599\u548c\u589e\u503c\u4ea7\u54c1\u3002<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u8be5\u4e13\u5229\u662f<strong>\u65b9\u771f<\/strong>\u6559\u6388\u83b7\u5f97\u7684\u7b2c\u4e5d\u9879\u4e13\u5229\uff0c\u589e\u52a0\u4e86\u51763\u9879\u672a\u51b3\u56fd\u9645\u4e13\u5229\u548c13\u9879\u672a\u51b3\u4e2d\u56fd\u4e13\u5229\u7533\u8bf7\uff0c\u6db5\u76d6\u4e86\u751f\u7269\u70bc\u5236\u6280\u672f\u7684\u5404\u79cd\u7279\u5f81\u3002<\/p>\n<p
